Frequently Asked Questions
When you add a stonk to a portfolio, MyStonks uses information that you enter to calculate real time performance of the holding, including unrealized gain or loss both as a percentage and an amount, plus other information. Price changes are shown in your native currency that you set when you first sign up.
No, it does not. MyStonks does not connect to your online trading platform. Information used to calculate your ongoing stonk performance is manually entered by you and depends on it being entered accurately for the performance to be displayed. But don't fret, you can edit the information for a stonk at any time.
Yes, it is. MyStonks does not require any personally-identifiable information to use the app. All you need is a functioning email address (which can be anything you want), and you can enter anything you like in the name fields. Stonky McStonkerson, for example. You do you. Your holdings can only be seen by you through a secure login. Any data used for research is limited to anonymized, aggregated figures that can't be traced back to you, and we never sell your information — see our Privacy Policy for details.
To enter a stonk and view its performances, you need to know:
- the stonk symbol
- the average cost per share
- the currency you used to buy the stonk
- the book value of the holding in your native currency
- the portfolio in which you want the stonk be to held
This information can be found in your online trading platform.
A portfolio is the account or "basket" that contains the stonk. Examples of this include Canadian TFSAs, RRSPs, cash trading accounts, or US 401(k) accounts. They can be anything, really. It's just a way to separate your stonks into groups in case they are being held in different online accounts. You can add as many portfolios as you like and call them anything you want. You can also choose which portfolios to be included on the StonkBoard.
MyStonks has access to real-time information of over 80,000 stonks and 60 stonk exchanges globally.
The StonkBoard is the page that gives you the single-pane-of-glass view of your stonk holdings in alphabetical order according to the symbol. Cool things you can do with the StonkBoard include adding the page as a Dock app in MacOS and/or displaying it in full screen on a monitor in your home or office.
You sure can! Use the StonkBoard Configurator to select which information you want displayed for each stonk, including information on total book value, total market value, price change, and more.
The StonkBoard refreshes every 60 seconds.
